The Story:
Based on the internationally acclaimed novel by Dodie Smith and set in the 1930's, the film is seen through the eyes of 17 year-old Cassandra (Romola Garai), a fledgling writer who lives with her eccentric family - her brother, elder sister (Rose Byrne) and bohemian parents - in a rundown English castle. Her father, who wrote a brilliant first novel, has spent years trying to produce another book, and the family has fallen on hard times.
When the estate is inherited by a pair of wealthy American brothers, the family sees its chance to make a better life for the girls by marrying them off. But life has a funny way and Cassandra is forced to face one of life's most difficult lessons as she falls in love with her sister's fiancé. I Capture The Castle is a whimsical and poignant coming of age tale.
Quotes:
“We found Rose completely by accident. She is an Australian actress who plays a Brit in our film and who just happened to be passing through LA at the right time. She had just got off a plane and the poor thing was shoved in front of me and Tim, having only just hurriedly read the script.” - Producer David Parfitt
“She was just fantastic, and I had no doubt of her ability to carry off the English accent.” - Director Tim Fywell
“I really don’t think the film would work so well if someone else was playing Cassandra. Romola is such a genuine, generous actress. Playing opposite her, it was so easy to create the dynamic between the two sisters, and that dynamic is integral both to the book and the film.” - Rose Byrne
