The movie pursues young Seth's fantasies and beliefs in this hostile,  rural environment in the Idaho Prairie.

Story Outline:
A visually stunning movie capturing painter Wyeth's American mid-West of the 1950s.  An 8 year-old boy, Seth Dove, is deeply affected after reading his father's magazine about vampires.   He believes a female neighbor, Dolphin Blue, is a vampire.  After Seth's friend is found dead and sexually 
 		abused, Seth's brother, Cameron [Viggo] returns from an army atomic-testing mission  in the Pacific.  Cameron falls in love with the neighbour and then falls ill, (probably with radiation sickness).  Seth believes Dolphin Blue is responsible for the deaths.  Seth's father commits suicide after being accused of the murders due to a prior homosexual misdemeanor with a young  boy.
