LILAC AND ROSES

I tossed lilac lightly on the stream,

a message fragrant purple, clean,

and the morning sun broke free and rose

above the grey clouds upon my face,

as I watched it slip downstream,

so silently impatient to leave this place

of mourning, death and roses

Lilac from the old house mum

and daisies pretty pink,

and wondered what you now would think

could you see my lilac slip downstream

as your life slipped into eternity

and wondered how life might have been,

had you once loved me

as you loved your roses,

I hope you're now at peace mum,

and find your heart and soul

in a garden in an afterlife

with sweet lilac and a pool,

red roses and a white peace dove,

and know how you were always loved

by both myself and little ruth

much more than ever you could love

for you were loved in truth.
