My Wetlands

On my property there is a creek (actually a drain) and two very large ponds.

At the moment the ponds are choked with reeds and I need to call in the big machinery to clean them out so that the water lilies can thrive.

Due to the heavy rain subsequent to the flood in March, my wetlands have expanded and attracted flocks of water birds. The most fascinating birds are the red bills. They have red bills, heads and legs. Their wings are black and their chests an iridescent blue. When they walk, they bob their tails up and down to reveal a white triangular patch under their tails.
