A
Friend for Budgie, the Cockatiel.
"Look! It's a budgie!"
The "budgie" was flying around being chased by the very
territorial magpies. It crashed into the wall of the house and
then landed on the kennel. Four cats were looking with great interest
so it had to be rescued. Not that it was grateful. It drew blood
from the rescuer! It was obviously an escapee from somewhere because
it has a ring on its leg - born 1995. Being yellow, not the natural
colour of a cockatiel, it would not have survived long in the
wild.
Budgie is a silly name for an
Australian cockatiel (or quarrion) but the name has stuck. I don't
even know what sex it is but have assigned it the male gender.
He had to live in a cat cage until I could buy a cocky cage but
he now happily lives in the computer room. Behind a closed door
because Holly kitten thinks that hassling him is great sport.
He is still not very tame but he can be coaxed out of his cage
to have a fly around the room. At first he had to be caught to
go back into the cage but has now learnt to go back in by himself
after he has had a fly around.
Budgie
And of course, Budgie needed
a friend so I bought a baby cockatiel who is the normal cockatiel
colour. Again, the sex is a mystery so I have assigned it the
female gender. But, for the life of me, I cannot think of a suitable
name for her. However, being young, she will be much easier to
train.
