Sunset Soaring Club profile

The club caters for Sydney-siders interested in flying radio controlled gliders and electric powered model aircraft.

Club members come from a diverse background, but they have in common their passion for flying. A number of club members are airline or private pilots. Others are highly skilled in designing, building and test flying model aircrafts - something that is just not possible with full scale aircraft.

We welcome visitors and new members, including beginners to our hobby. Senior members at the club can provide advice and hands on instruction to beginners. We encourage you to come along and talk to us before purchasing a model and radio gear. Club membership includes insurance cover which is essential if you wish to fly models.

We have several club bungees for launching and the site is good for thermals and slope soaring in favorable conditions. In addition, many members fly electric powered model aircraft, including sports and scale looking aircraft.
Note we do not permit winch launching, or internal combustion or jet powered models at our site (for noise reasons).

Some members also go slope soaring on the North Shore at other recognised sites such as Long Reef and Dobroyd Head

This is our club field. Slope soaring is possible in NW, NE and SE winds

There are many different types of 2 metre sized gliders at the club. This Great Planes Spirit is great for beginners.
