Welcome to Sunset Soaring Club

If you are interested in radio-controlled hand and bungee launched model gliders or electric powered sports and scale model aircraft in Sydney - then this is the place! Weather permitting, we fly every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Golden Jubilee Oval, North Wahroonga (see the Directions page for a map). We warmly welcome visitors interested in our hobby and are very happy to assist you in choosing a model and getting it airborne - just come to the field any Sunday.

Fun Day 28 June 2009 - Please RSVP Now

Our next Family Fun Day will be held on Sunday 28th June 2009, and now we need you to let us know if you and your family will be coming!
There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks available. Costs will be a $1.00 for a sausage, bun, sauces and onion. Drinks will be a $1.00.

Now that’s cheap!

The “fun” part will be the usual contests:-

  • “Open” seven cell contest for Foamies (Easy Gliders and Easy Stars) and normal, average power, two meter gliders.
  • Park flyer pylon race
  • Park flyer ribbon fly-past and cutting contest
  • Scale Warbird model display

Only slow flying models (like Easy Stars, Easy Gliders, Ugly Sticks, and GWS Tiger Moths etc) and “normal” powered two meter gliders allowed in the flying contests. (Remember there will be a number of children about). The scale Warbird display may be followed by a Warbird “fly past” if time permits.

Start getting your models repaired, built or reconditioned for this fun day, you could be lucky enough to win one of our prized club certificates that will be presented to the winners of each event.

The ugliest model will also win one of our prized club certificates, so don’t be shy to bring along you favourite model. Last year, Tony Recsei won with his “glue bird of ugliness”, so give it a try.

To assist with catering, please let us know if you and family will be attending - we need a head count to purchase the right amount of food & drinks.

RSVP Now! If you want more info, ask John Ellis, Paul Hinson, Barrie Hill or Tony Brown.

Free instruction for Beginners and "Wings" certification tests

Junior member Marc Ryan was recently awarded his MAAA Bronze Wings by Instructor Robin Simpson.

We have many senior members who are happy to help beginners learn to fly - and four MAAA certified Instructors who can help more experienced pilots hone their skills and undertake the formal MAAA model aircraft proficiency tests which lead to the award of Bronze or Gold Wings. There is no tuition fee - but you must be a member of the club.
