If you are interested in radio-controlled hand and bungee launched model gliders or electric powered sports and scale model aircraft in Sydney - then this is the place! Weather permitting, we fly every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Golden Jubilee Oval, North Wahroonga (see the Directions page for a map). We warmly welcome visitors interested in our hobby and are very happy to assist you in choosing a model and getting it airborne - just come to the field any Sunday. Members Experiment With Low Cost Electric Aeroplanes Club members Robin Simpson, Peter Smith and Paul Hinson show off their EHORs (Electric Hell On Rails) The latest aeroplane building craze at the club is based on one of the dozens of "simple plastic aeroplane designs" (SPADs) that can be found on the internet at Spad To The Bone. The idea is to build a great performing radio control plane from the cheapest possible materials - in this case, discarded coroplast beer advertising signs - free from our local bottle shop! The design is called "electric hell on rails" (EHOR) but Paul and Robin have renamed theirs the "beer sign on rails" (BSOR) for obvious reasons. Total airframe materials cost is about $10. Add a cheap outrunner, two servos, a speed control and battery and you have a highly aerobatic fun machine for well under $100. Free instruction for Beginners and "Wings" certification tests Junior member Marc Ryan was recently awarded his MAAA Bronze Wings by Instructor Robin Simpson. We have many senior members
who are happy to help beginners learn to fly - and four MAAA
certified Instructors who can help more experienced pilots
hone their skills and undertake the formal MAAA model
aircraft proficiency tests which lead to the award of Bronze
or Gold Wings. There is no tuition fee - but you must be a
member of the club. Peter
