When I Have Love
Let me honour only lasting things,
And not those things that capture pleasantries.
O Love! You are so gracious-my heart sings-
When I have Love, I need no fantasies.
When I have Love, I have all that could be fine,
All that is beautiful, all that is pure and good;
And when I love, from these leaden lips of mine,
There comes a song none else have understood.
It is not all of closeness and embracing,
Of poetry and Spring, of honey and sweet flowers,
Sometimes it makes us bleed, but not desisting-
The ways of Love are higher ways than ours.
Masterful, yet gentle, is always Love to me,
Patient, and with courteous humour, teacherly.
There is wisdom in His face, and in His tender gaze-
I am the instrument He wonderfully plays!
How I want to love this Love while yet I live!
To celebrate His courage, and divine passion daring-
For this, I'd give the all I have to give-
May this one treasure be my life's best sharing.
