The original site is situated on the western side of Wellington Street in Launceston, opposite the end of Cameron Street. This is now known as the Queen Victoria Museum at Royal Park. A number of display galleries and spaces are featured on two floors. There is also a bookshop which carries a varied range of stock including Museum publications and gift items.

It is about five minutes walk from the city centre, and only 10 minutes walk from King's Bridge and the Cataract Gorge Nature Reserve.

Since 24th November 2001 another Museum complex has been open to the public.
The former site and buildings of the Launceston Railway Yards & Workshops have been redeveloped as the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery at Inveresk.

Opening Hours for both sites: 10am to 5 pm daily
(closed Good Friday & Christmas Day).
