Little AthleticsAt a junior level, the South Barwon Athletic Club is affiliated with the Geelong Little Athletics Centre (GLAC). Australian Little Athletics started in Geelong in October 1964 - here is a brief history. The GLAC offers both a summer season of athletics and a winter cross country competition. The summer season is held at John Landy Field, Barwon Terrace, Geelong (Melways Ref: Map 452 B9) and runs from October to March. The competition commences at 8.15am sharp. On Track for under 7 athletes will commence at 9.30am. SpikesAthletes in the Under 12 to Under 15 age groups can wear spikes for all hurdles, 70 m, 100 m, 200 m and 400 m i.e. track events where athlete's compete in a separate lane. Also, spikes may be worn in long, triple and high jumps. Spikes can only be worn during an event and not to or from the event. Spikes must be cone shaped and no longer than 7mm. Spiked shoes with spikes removed are not permitted. Athletes not using spikes correctly will be disqualified.
