On this page I will try to cover some of the trips Peter and I have done. Over the years 2001-2002 Peter and I managed to spend 10 months approximately travelling around Australia. We spent that time 1. establishing our relationship (as that long living together in a tent either makes or breaks a relationship.)and 2. enjoying the beautiful coutry that is Australia. We met any number of weird and wonderful people and have numerous stories. And terrified family and friends having been camping in the top end when the Falconio incident happened. We stayed at Sandy billabong where the German girl was taken by a crocodile and caught some of the biggest fish I have ever had the pleasure of eating....mmmm fish. here are a few pictures from the trip in 2001. We spent sometime travelling up through the centre of Australia then along the Gulf of Carpentaria, outback QLD up to Cooktown and home.
This photo of The Painted Desert was taken minutes before an almighty thunderstorm hit. In the middle of outback South Australia, we had barely the chance to stop and take a photo (It was not expected to work out and not nearly so well), before the rain started pelting down. The colours in the stone formations were amazing, topped off by a deep blue right at the base of one of the hills.
One of our favorite places in the Australian centre is the beautiful Kata Tjuta, which was formally known as the Olga's. They are near Uluru but far more beautiful than the famous rock. The walk through the valley of the winds is estimated to take 3 hours. Our group of four took 4 and a bit hours as we spent the whole time taking pictures of everything. Luckily the whole area was in bloom after a few days of rain so the looking down from the top of the valley of the winds walk the difference between the green grass and the bright red stone of the formations was spectacular.
Just one of the gorgeous sunsets that northern Australia put on show for our last trip. There were so many nice sunsets that by the end of the trip we had become a bit hohum about them, "Oh nice sunset, been there done that" kind of attitudes, sad but true. This one was from the Darwin Yacht Club overlooking the beach.
Once we reached the Eastern side of Australia we were blessed with seeing numerous waterfalls, so many to see and so little time. One the other side of this waterfall with just a little walking and climbering over the rocks and water we found a small heard of wild goats. Peter still hates seeing the photo of them lying there basking in the sun whilst he was wishing he had a gun.
