Before running in the Golden Slipper, Vain won the Maribyrnong Plate by eight lengths, the Merson Cooper Stakes and VRC Sires' Produce Stakes
both by four lengths but was not favourite for the Slipper (that honour going to the filly Special Girl). He became the first Victorian horse to win the Golden Slipper when with blistering speed he led from
barrier to post winning by four lengths on a dead track. At his next start he was second in the AJC Sires' Produce Stakes, followed by a win in the AJC Champagne Stakes. As a three year old, he raced seven
times for 6 wins and one second and was retired at the end of that season to stand at Widden Stud where among others he sired Inspired and Sir Dapper (both winners of the Golden Slipper). |
