Wayne Harris became the first apprentice to win the Golden Slipper when he brought Century Miss with a withering run to win in a photo finish. It gave Bart Cummings his fourth win the race in a decade when he and T J Smith had shared training honours. Century Miss broke her jaw in a barrier mishap shortly afterwards and was immediately retired to stud. |
