Odds-on favourite for the 1973 Golden Slipper was the T J Smith trained, Imagele who was declared by Smith as only needing to "go around". However, Imagele was involved in a three horse fall after 500 metres and the Cummings trained Tontonan went on to win the race. Tontonan then went on to win the AJC Sires Produce Stakes. As a three year old he won the VATC Oakleigh Plate, AJC Doncaster Handicap and All-Aged Stakes. Like Todman and John's Hope he suffered with leg problems that ended his career on the track. |
