John's Hope was one of the few two year olds to win the Blue Diamond / Golden Slipper double. In his early races, John's Hope was plagued by bad barrier draws and at his first start at Canterbury nearly ran through the outside fence. At his next start at Rosehill he again drew wide but never looked like being beaten. In the Slipper, John's Hope was forced to race three wide for most of the race yet still ran 1:11.1 to equal Reisling's race record. The colt suffered from leg problems and although starting another 14 times was only able to win one more race over 1100 metres at Doomben. |
