George Moore finally broke his drought in the Slipper when he rode Baguette to victory in 1970 but many contend second
placegetter Royal Show ridden by Kevin Langby and trained by T J Smith should have won. Moore was trapped on the rails by Langby and in a desperate move turned Baguette almost sideways nearly knocking
Langby out of the saddle. Langby protested but to no avail. Baguette raced 31 times for 15 wins, 7 seconds and 4 thirds. He went to stud where he sired Dark Eclipse the winner of the
1980 Golden Slipper. |
