Merlene gave trainer Lee Freedman an unprecedented fourth consecutive win in the 1996 Golden Slipper and Greg Hall his second. This year also saw shuttle stallion Danehill sire his third consecutive Slipper winner. The Slipper of that year featured six last start winners and with Merlene drawing barrier one she was able to score a decisive win when jockey Hall was able to get her off the fence early in the straight. |
