In 1994, the winner of the Slipper, Danzero (Lee Freedman's second winner) ridden by Greg Hall beat David Hayes' trained St Covet and Racer's Edge but had to survive a protest lodged by the fifth and second placed horses.  After a steward's enquiry both protests were dismissed.  Prior to the Slipper, Danzero had won the VRC Maribyrnong Trial Stakes and VATC Blue Diamond Prelude.  He raced 9 times for 4 wins and 3 placings.  He stands at Arrowfield Stud in the Hunter Valley alongside fellow Slipper winner, Flying Spur.
