When two of the main contenders for the Slipper (Rancher and Mr McGinty) did not contest the race, it seemed that it would be a
match between the Sydney colt, Marscay and Melbourne's Grosvenor (who was sent out favourite). Trainer Jack Denham declared that Marscay would swamp his rivals and with jockey Ron Quinton riding
confidently this proved correct. Marscay overwhelmed his rivals beating stablemate Vaindarra by two lengths. From 15 starts Marscay won eight races and was placed three times. He was
retired to stud where he has produced many good winners including 1993 Golden Slipper winner, Bint Marscay. |
