In a year where Australia's two biggest stables (David Hayes (6)and John Hawkes (3)accounted for 10 of the 16 runners, the 2007 Golden Slipper was a very open
affair, especially when the pre-post favourite, Murtajill, drew barrier 16. When the field jumped it was not surprising to see Husson Lightning and Murtajill soon lead the field but when they turned for home and
many jockeys once again scouted wide, Damien Oliver on Forensics
which had drawn barrier 1, showed what a great rider he is and stuck to the fence where he never passed a runner. At the finish it was the John Hawkes' trained Forensics by a short neck to the David Hayes'
trained Zizou and three quarters of a length to the Gai Waterhouse" trained Meurice in a time of 1:09.33. |
