Trainer: Paul Perry Jockey: Len Beasley
The new super sire, Redoute's Choice was represented by six starters in the 2005 Golden Slipper and although racegoers placed their faith in one of his sons, Snitzel, which failed to flatter, he quinellaed the race
with the Paul Perry-trained Stratum and the Gai Waterhouse-trained, Fashions Afield. Stratum (who won the Pago Pago Stakes ridden by Darren Beadman the week before)was ridden by Lenny Beasley who picked up the
ride after Beadman was committed to the John Hawkes' trained Mnemosyne. On jumping Stratum raced to share the lead with Opportunity until approaching the turn where he stole a break on the opposition and held off
the late challenges of Fashions Afield and Media to win by one length. The win was the first Slipper for trainer Paul Perry who had taken his 2002 third placegetter, Choisir, overseas to become the first
Australian-trained horse to win in the UK. |
