Newsletter, July to October. We apologise for the gap in communications and offer the following as an update. RECENT MEETINGS At the June and July meetings we welcomed two new people to the group. One of our members shared her story with us. It was most moving and formed the basis for a valuable discussion. This story and one other have been added to this website. We watched and enjoyed the video, “IN AND OUT” While light hearted and full of laughs this film gently raises issues about prejudice and discrimination. It is available from Picture Search Another night some of our members shared a meal while relaxing and listening to Irish music. We didn’t change the world that night but we did have fun together. ACTIVITIES PFLAG members attended a stall at the University to mark Gay Pride week. We provided leaflets and were available to talk to people. And were interviewed on Radio One. Two new leaflets are being prepared which will soon appear on this web site so that they can be downloaded and distributed as needed. One has been written especially for parents who may be feeling vulnerable after a child has come out. The other is for more general use, for counsellors, and health professionals teachers, as well as for the general public. We would find it helpful to get feedback about these. Leave messages in the guestbook (from the Homepage of this website). To make ourselves more easily accessible to people and to protect their privacy, we will soon begin to use our new cell phone. The number will be: 025 6869 304 PUBLICITYWe are constantly going out to make ourselves known to the community. At a recent meeting about Youth Suicide, health and youth workers received our leaflets with appreciation. At present we need places where a wide range of people can find our contact numbers. Citizens Advice have a supply of leaflets, and we have found that putting a small supply on the rack beside the Returns desk at the Public Library seems to be creating interest. WEBSITEThe website hits continue steadily. NEXT MEETING Our next meeting will be on the FIFTH Monday of October at 7.30 at Community House Moray Place.. There will be two speakers who have done research into suicide amongst Gay and Lesbian youth. We expect to find this helpful in our work and have been assured that it won’t be above our heads! Some of us come earlier about 7.15 and have coffee or tea. New Families and Friends most welcome to attend. COPIES OF PREVIOUS NEWSLETTERS: |
