Wiccan, or Magickal names are popular among Wiccans, Witches and Pagans.

  Some have several names, a name they use in their coven, or online etc, and a secret name that they use when addressing the Goddess and God, this name is known only to the deities and the individual.

  A reason for creating a Wiccan name is it is said that if a person knows your real name, they can use it for harmful purposes - curses etc.

  Taking a new name is a symbol of shedding old skin and of a Wiccan's devotion to Wicca. It is a symbol of rebirth into the new religion.

  It is not necessary to have a Craft name, the decision is yours and yours alone. There is no right way to go about choosing your Wiccan name. Some find it through meditation, divination, or numerology. Your name may come to you in a dream, or you might come across a certain name which sticks in your mind.

  Search through books for an appropriate name, use your imagination, be original there are so many Wiccans out there who just slap two words like Moon and Star together. Your name need not be some unusual, mystical name, all it needs to be is a name that feels right to you.

  Don't rush your quest, often a name will appear when you least expect it. Once you've chosen your name there are plenty of things to do with it. Always use your Craft name in ritual, whether in coven or solitaire. Use it in prayer. Use it when conversing with other Pagans.

  You may wish to do a ritual to ask the Goddess and God to recognize you by your new name.

  Whatever you do, make sure it feels right to you. You don't need to impress others, this is your path, and choosing a new name for yourself is but another way to live and celebrate the Wiccan way.
