COMMUNICATION
WITH EAST TIMOR
For
the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel the East Timor Committee
sent cards with a photo of our church to Zumalai and Raimea
on behalf of the parish. We also sent cards to Christina dos
Reis and Paulo dos Santos, the two teachers we are supporting
in Raimea. The message on the card to Raimea was as follows:
To
the people of Raimea,
We, the people of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Wentworthville,
Australia, send you greetings for the Feast of Our Lady of
Mount Carmel. The people from Wentworthville who visited you
on 2 November 2003 remember your wonderful welcome and hospitality.
We are pleased to see from photos that the school building
has been much improved and are very happy to be able to support
your teachers. Using the words from the Bible we wish you
God's blessing. "May God bless you and keep you. May
he let his face shine on you and be gracious to you. May God
look upon you with kindness and give you peace."
Similar
messages were written on the other cards, which were written
in Tetun as most of the people do not understand English.
A replica of the cards we sent is on display in the Parish
Centre.
CARMELITE FORMATION HOUSE AT HERA
The
parish supported the open air hall and the large sporting
complex on the Hera property not far from Dili. The formation
house was blessed by Fr. Joseph Chalmers O.Carm, Prior General
of the Carmelites on 17 April 2007, en route to Australia
for the Provincial Chapter. A plaque has been made to acknowledge
all large donations to the building and Wentworthville is
named.
