King Alfred School, Plön
Brief History
King Alfred School was one of a number of British Service schools opened at the end of WW2 in West Germany, catering for the education of the children of serving members of the British Armed Forces working in the country at that time. The school was situated on the shores of the Grosser Plöner See, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
The school was opened in May 1948 and was eventually closed in 1959 as the result of a decline in the number of students. The remaining K.A.S. pupils were then sent off to one of the other similar boarding schools run by the education authorities, until their parents were posted to other places.
There were five 'houses' at the school, and pupils were, more or less, evenly distributed between them.
Boys and girls attended King Alfred School, which made for some interesting experiences, some of which are remembered with much detail by surviving members of the Wyvern Club based mainly in the United Kingdom, but also all over the world.
This site has been made with the hope that other past pupils of King Alfred School, perhaps, now living in New Zealand, will make contact with the main site and share some old memories.
