Noise is a little like domestic violence. Most people are affected by it, but attempting to solve the problem is met by disbelief or even suspicion, and attempting to confront the problem can result in further violence. Here we will try to give you some solutions, although we don't yet pretend to have all the answers (it is the same all through the western world.)

To combat noise issues we must start with looking at our state legislation. There are laws to cover many aspects of noise, and although they are often deficient, the main problem is that people are not aware of them. So one very useful step is to be aware of the laws that do exist, and then make the appropriate authorities and perpetrators aware of the laws. After viewing our laws, we must plan how we are going to have these laws enforced. A knee jerk response to noise will end up in tragedy. Consult with Noise Tasmania if you need to as being informed about noise is the pathway to successfully resolving your noise issues. Some noise issues are very difficult to deal with and for politely trying to have the noise stopped may lead you to legal charges being laid upon you. It is essential to find out all you can BEFORE you act.

If you find that the laws are not sufficient or the enforcement is not forthcoming, it is time to work on either changing the laws or joining Noise Tasmania to work as a group to have noise issues resolved.
