History Our Objectives Solutions

What is NOISE TAS?

NOISE TAS is a growing not-for-profit Tasmanian organisation dedicated to the elimination of unwanted noise from any source which causes discomfort, stress or adverse health problems.

What are the Reasons for NOISE TAS Showing This Interest?

Our research shows that loud, persistent or deliberately caused noise which penetrates the home is having serious effects on the health and well-being of those who are exposed to it.

Our organisation has extensive documented scientific reports which warn of the serious, non-auditory effects of unwanted noise on human health. Many citizens are too old, too ill, or are, for various reasons, insecure about communicating with bureaucracy in an endeavour to achieve peace inside their homes.

There also is the common effect of families or individuals being burdened with the unfair economic circumstances of having to sell or vacate their homes in order to alleviate their suffering. Some people do not have either the finances or agility to escape from repetitive, intrusive noise.

One of the most serious effects of intrusive residential noise is sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation leads to reduced work output following intrusive noise events, dangerous driving, and strained family relationships.I

What Do We Want?

We want our homes to be havens from unwanted noise, and we ask that our soundscape of our public spaces - which is common property, like the air we breathe - be respected.

We expect authorities to quickly and effectively halt the intrusion of unwanted noise into our homes.

The NOISE TAS group is constantly researching, lobbying government authorities, and informing both government and citizens about the proven deleterious health effects of repetitive, intrusive noise. Support group participation can help relieve suffering - every case is different.

If you think your health is affected by non-resolution of a noise problem, you should ask your G.P. for a medical certificate to substantiate this.

All communications with NOISE TAS are treated with strictest confidentiality and we welcome all support.

NOISE TAS is a completely volunteer, non-profit organisation. We rely on the financial help of our supporters to manage the ever-increasing workload, and any contributions, however small, are very much appreciated. (NOISE TAS is approved under sections 5(1)(a) and 5(2)(c) of the Collections for Charities Act 2001).
