Marrickville Tunnel

Do you want toxic emission stacks in your neighbourhood?

Do you want to support the expansion of Sydney Airport with more traffic capacity through Marrickville so they can increase the passenger and freight flights into Sydney?

Use the options on your left to find out more about the tunnel and where it will go; stacks; the Council's position; what the alternatives are; and what you can do to help stop the Tunnel.

See About the Tunnel for maps of the areas to be worst effected by toxic pollution.

MTAG update #7 - 10th April 2005

We've seen a lot in the paper these past weeks about the government's lack of commitment to public transport and its own air quality targets, while it continues pushing road projects. That, combined with the Airport's uncontrolled expansion, will "drive" us closer to the Marrickville Airport Tunnel which will have such a negative impact on our lives and on Sydney.

NEXT MEETING THURSDAY (14th)

Come along and have your say. Meeting is 7-8:30pm at Herb Greedy Hall (Petersham Rd off Marrickville Road, near Marrickville Library/behind Banana Joes).

AIRPORT EXPANSION PROTEST, SUNDAY 17th, Tempe Reserve at 11am

The airport doesn't have to comply with Council or state planning laws, or contribute funds to infrastructure like everyone else. They can put as many multi-storey car parks and commercial towers on their federal land as they like. Be there on Sunday to protest.

Marrickville Tunnel Action Group

The Marrickville Tunnel Action Group was formed at an inaugural meeting on 17 November 2004.

We oppose building a motorway or road tunnel through the Marrickville Council area.

Instead, we call for:
* better public transport
* more freight on railways
* proper sound buffering of railways
* better planning of freight movements
* better access for bicycles and pedestrians
* no expansion of Sydney Airport or Port Botany.
