About Me |

My name is Sue Smith and me and my dogs are Keelinga! We live on 30 acres in the Central West of New South Wales in Australia.
My start in dogs really happened in 1978 when I was traveling in the USA. I was one of those girls who had horses and friends with horses, so our holiday was 'looking at horses'. I had orders from a friend to go and find a certain arabian stallion and while looking for him found Chelsea, a alaskan malamute with BLUE eyes?? I had never seen one before so accepted that she was a malamute. I then moved onto Kentucky and worked on a thoroughbred stud where one of the other employees had an australian shepherd.
On my return to OZ I made the decision to get a dog. I found that there were 2 malamutes in the country and they had a litter between them, but could not justify the price of this new breed. Aussie Shepherds were unheard off and besides why get one of those when I could get the best of Australia's working dogs - so Paxton Quigley (Packy), a solid black and tan unregistered kelpie came to stay. I was truck driving carrying stock and wool, so my dog was invaluable and the envy of many. So much so one night he disappeared off his chain.
I gave up 'truckin' and went back to office work. Within 12 months I was asked to find a keeshond for a work mate. I found him Wally (Aust Ch Westenkees Kolvir), but Wally decided that he would rather live with me. So then along came Misty (Ronphlora Misty Blue). These two were my start into dog showing and the world of the purebred dog.
My Mum bought me my first siberian in 1989. Wally and Misty were getting old and I wanted the spitz breed but without the coat. I still was after a malamute but stumbled onto a siberian and said "thats' what I want, so whats a malamute?" Lyndi (Aust Ch Gagarin Tina Zemlya) from Malcolm Berry's kennel then joined the pack and started me on the wonderful world of running dogs in harness and generally being owned by siberians.
My aussie shepherd came about from stewarding this breed at local dog shows. I was impressed with the look of them and by the intelligence of the breed. I had missed being able to take a dog out into the paddocks with me who would stay with me. I decided to get an aussie, which quickly became two, Bobbie and Shelley (Aust Ch Sasin Decidedly Bluebob and Aust Ch Sasin Dancing Domino ET).
Both my breeds are 'middle of the road' working dogs. They have been laughed out of the show ring for being too extreme and one of my ambitions it to educate the judges to the see the other side of the breed and not condemn them.
I do not breed very often. When I do, it is to save a line which I have put a lot of time into and don't want it lost to the world. I am heavily into rescue and will rehome rescue dogs before selling puppies. While I have the room and can afford it I will always rescue.
