Newmerella Primary School was built and established
in 1889. It is 5km west of Orbost, off the Princes Highway and has 3 bus
routes to service the area. The school consists of a number of buildings
surrounded by extensive gardens and play areas and included on the property
is a hall that has major musical events conducted bi-annually.
The school has 5 set goals, which were developed through government policies
and educational priorities, with parental and family input, they are:
- Curriculum
: This goal is emphasised on developing important skills in Literacy
and Numeracy and also to provide a sequential curriculum of the 8 key
learning areas of Arts, English, Science, Mathematics, Technology, Health
and Physical Education, SOSE (Studies of Society and the Environment)
and LOTE (Languages Other That English). Also, Newmerella Primary School
offers Reading Recovery and Instrumental music lessons (recorder, guitar
and violin).
