"A unique opportunity to experience the social behavior of Horses at first-hand" |

A view over one of the two harem group 'ranges'
Interactive Equine Farmstays combines a unique experiential activity in a spectacular and accessible natural environment with comfortable accommodation at an inclusive price which is great value.
Set in the peace and isolation of the unspoilt rural landscape of Northland, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Interactive Equine Farmstays lodge provides accommodation for the independent traveller, cyclist or backpacker travelling through Northland using the Twin Coast Discovery routes.
The White Horse Farm Equine Ethology Project was established on the 285 acre site in 1992 to study the social behavior of semi-free ranging horses kept in natural family groups, and is quite unique. The project is now home to around fifty individuals, the majority of which make up two harem groups of between 12 and 22 individuals. Each group includes a Harem Stallion, mares, and youngsters from foals through to 2 year olds.
Visitors are invited to explore the world of the horse with our resident ethologist who will be happy to guide you round, make introductions, and answer your questions. For people of all ages who are interested in horses, this is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to learn about their psychology and behaviour, in a beautiful and natural environment that will re-energize and connect you to nature.
