Bruce, Libby and Merv did a 4 week tour of west coast USA

Tours in 2005:

Feb 5/20 2005 New Zealand South Island Trek. Organised by George and Christine, with help from Heather and Phillip.

Two weeks around the South Island. Started at Lake Tekapo, about 250 km SW of Christchurch, and went via Omarama, Lindis Pass, Cromwell, Queenstown, Arrowtown, Crown Range, Wanaka, Makarora, Haast Pass, Haast, Lake Paringa, Fox Glacier, Hari Hari, Hokitika and finished riding at Greymouth on the West Coast. Took the Tranzscenic train back to Christchurch over Arthurs Pass. Total distance ridden was about 860 km.

2004

Jan 24-26th. 3 day ride. Goulburn, Tarago, Collector,Gunning, Goulburn. Drew. Stayed at The Loaded Dog at Tarago and the Telegraph Hotel at Gunning.

Feb 21/22 Maitland Terrace/Stroud/Port Stephens. Very hot. Had to rescue a few people due heat exhaustion. (Memo: dont go if the forecast says 40C!)
March 13/14 Goulburn to Crookwell. Heather.
April 24/25/26 (Anzac W/E) Harden area. Heather
May 15/22 Cootamundra/Gundagai/Wagga/Grong Grong/Ardlethan/Temora/Young. Left cars at Wallendbeen, near Harden, north of Cootamundra. Day 1 was 30 km to Cootamundra, then (day 2) 80 km to Gundagai, 85 km to Wagga, 80 odd to Grong Grong, Ardlethan, Temora, Young, then 29 km back to Wallendbeen for the drive home. 6 full days cycling, 2 short days, 500 km. Nicest town? Temora was good, well preserved buildings, good bakeries, old pub in south end of town was great value.

Nov 21/22 Bathurst, Rockley, Blayney, Milthorpe, Cashens Lane, Bathurst. Excellent tour. Stayed at Blayney in Pub. Heather.
October 5-6 2003. Maitland/Singleton via Pokolbin and Broke, return via Elderslie. 130 km. Good scenery. Reasonable roads. Cheap Hotel (The Ag at Singleton - a bit rough but you can put your bikes in the room!).
Sept/Oct. Kangaroo Island and Coonawarra, SA. Ross, Bruce, Libby.
Sept 21/22 2003 Bathurst/Oberon. Heather and crowd. Hey, Oberon is over 1000m!
May 17-18 2003 Mudgee/Dunedoo. Heather/Grahame. Read Heather's report

April 6-14 BNSW BIG RIDE 2002. Manilla to Walcha in NW NSW. See photos. Fully supported holiday ride. Enter next years BR from BNSW web site.
May 17-18 Mudgee/Dunedoo weekend. Two day ride. Heather/Graham.
July 20/21- Mittagong to Berry via Kangaroo Valley. Stayed in Berry Sat nite. Easy day on Sunday around Berry. Train back. 70km + Sunday M. Heather.
August 24/25- Hornsby to Wyong via Wisemans Ferry Sat nite at Ko Veda caravan park in Wisemans. Train back from Wyong. 160 km M/H. Grant.

Sept 14/15- Lithgow/OConnell/Oberon/Hampden/Lithgow. OConnell farm stay Sat nite. (bunks or camping) 160km . Some big hills, very scenic.H. Heather.

October 5/6/7 Long weekend. Explore Carcoar area. By car to Bathurst. Heather.

November 23/24. Gosford to Wollombi via Peats Ridge. Return via Morriset, Wyong.Stay in B&B, reasonable rates. Near pub. 150 km (75/75). Heather.

Bob. September 98. Day 1 - Maitland to Singleton via Pokolbin and Broke. Stayed in the Railway Hotel. Clasic country pub. Day 2 - Singleton to Maitland via scenic north side of Hunter.
Ross. April 00: Campbelltown to Bundanoon. Stayed in the YHA. Day 2- Bundanoon to Berry.
Heather: Gosford to Paxton via Kulnura. Stayed in Paxton pub.
Heather. Sept 99/October 2001. Carcoar and Milthorpe Weekend: Started and finished at Bathurst. Stayed in historic Carcoar in the Royal Pub.
Heather : Ilford/Mudgee/Gulgong and return. 100km+ both days. Good old pub with cheap accomodation at Gulgong.
Heather and Kathy's Hunter weekend: Gosford to Ellalong via Kulnura. Stayed in Ellalong Pub overlooking the Watagans. Return via Cooranbong and Wyong.Lost Phillipa!
Kathy and Ross: Maitland to Dungog and back to Raymond Terrace/Stockton/Newcastle. Big wind on the Sunday.
Grant led a Berry to Jervis Bay trip. Train to Berry.
Kathy led a Snowy Mountain trip from Cooma to Kiandra and Dead Horse Gap. Epic!
Heather: Goulburn to Crookwell. May 2000. The Big Freeze. It snowed and was too cold to ride! Another try in Sept 2000 was more sucessful. Also revisited Crookwell in October 2006.
Ross: July 1-2, 2000 Maitland to Dungog, again, and back to Raymond Terrace/Stockton/Newcastle. 160km. Lots of cows.
Heather: Lithgow to Oberon via Sodwalls (approp. named), Tarana and O'Connell. Windy and very cool (5 deg in Oberon) but great ride. Hills, what hills? Stayed at O'Connell Pub. Cheap rooms and good food.
February 24-25 2001. Marulan to Kiama. (Ross Scott)
March 3-4 2001 Goulburn to Braidwood. (Heather Manning)
FEDERATION RIDE. April 28-May 8 2001. Ballarat to Yass. (Bruce Fry)
July 27-28 2001. Maitland to Dungog. Heather
Kathy (organised the ride but couldn't make it). August 2001: Hornsby to Wisemans Ferry and Wyong. Via Galston Gorge and Lower Portland. Very scenic. Stayed at Ko-Veda caravan Park - friendly owner. Second day was harder, with a long hill out of Mangrove Ck, and a hail storm down Bumble Hill for the tailenders. A good ride.

NE VICTORIA.

October 2001. I'd ruther be in Rutherglen or talking to Yack and Dandah, but Myrtle wasnt looking too Bright and no one could mount Beauty so we ended up taking the Ford to see Beech at Worth. Great 6 day ride through NE Victoria, including some Rail Trails, staying in caravan parks, old hotels, ski lodges and the old Convent in Beechworth. Excellent adventure, well organised by Grant.
Adelaide to Darwin. 1997. Bob Moore and Trevor Briggs (d.2000). 4 week expedition up the Stuart Highway.
