2nd
Division Report
The 4th round of the season
saw the team back at home, against the Daisy Social Club (aka
The Cutters). With
1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw, this round was a must win for the
team, both for confidence and to send a message to all the
other teams that we are not to be taken lightly.
The first ¼ saw the team take an early
lead with 8 players winning their first games.
It was a good start, and one which we knew that if we
didn’t keep the level of intensity up, could easily be taken
away over the next 3 quarters.

With
this in mind, we tried to keep this intensity up through the 2nd
quarter. The team was able to accomplish this, albeit winning 1 less
frame, and so at the halfway point, we had a lead of 15 – 9.
With some excellent pool being played by both
sides, we never let The Cutters back into the game, with both the 3rd
and 4th quarters being square, at 6 each in both quarters.
A final score of 27 – 21 made for a win for Fast Break, but
one which, with the match meeting afterwards, was agreed should have
been more convincing. A
few errant shots by a few players, and lack of playing ‘percentage
pool’, meant that the win was not by a larger margin.
Well done to those players who won 3 frames,
including Mark Benesovsky, who in his 3rd season of
competitive pool, has stepped up to the plate more so than any other
player, and to Jason Lowe, who managed to scrape together 4 frames.
4th
Division Report
The fourth round had arrived for the fourth
division players. With
each week of playing, the new players are getting better and better,
and our first win would not be far away if we kept on improving the
way we have been.
Our opponents this night was the Eastern
Cobras, based at Rack ‘Em Up.
Straight from the start we had one advantage
which was the fact they had to forfeit 3 frames, but unfortunately, as
it turned out so did we. So
any advantage we thought we had, was now null and void.
We had to forfeit one set of doubles, whereas the Cobras
forfeited one singles player, which gave Lauren Black her first 3 –
0 win… yay!
Fast Break made a great start, with our one
doubles combination of Jason Zammit and Sally Jane Eaton winning 2 of
their 3 frames. The
singles also followed suit with the first 3 winning 7 frames out of a
possible 9, with Mark Fraser winning all 3 of his frames at the number
1 singles position. This
made for a great platform from which we could really press home this
advantage. With some
patient pool playing and some stellar shots, the team started to get
closer to their first win. Carly
Clarke fought for 2 frames, as did the fourths illustrious captain,
Justin Rosmalen. With this
tenacity being shown on the tables, it was a team lifting night as we
walked away with our first win of the year, with a final score of 19
– 17. With this fight
being shown, many more wins will come our way this year.
GO FAST BREAK!
