2nd
Division Report
The 3rd week of the EDPL season rolled along,
and this round saw Fast Break up against the Croydon Hotel.
The side was unchanged except for the elevation of
Danny Searle from our 4th division side.
After the first two rounds, we knew we had to perform
well, and perform early to have a chance of winning this
week. There was some very good pool played by both teams, and
the games were very evenly poised after the 1st
quarter, with Fast Break ahead 7 – 5.

This continued to be the way in the 2nd, but by the
end of the quarter, we had not extended our lead and were ahead 13 –
12. The Croydon Hotel had
2 substitutes up their sleeve, and decided to use them coming into the
2nd half. Of
the 4 games their subs played, they won 3 to our 1.
But this didn’t halt our charge toward our maiden win of the
season, with the score from the second half being more favourable our
way, with the quarter by quarter scores being 7 – 5 in the 3rd
and 7 – 5 in the last. A
final score of 27 – 21 made for a satisfying night for all our
players, with nobody losing all of their games and Daniel Eaton, Jason
Lowe and Mark Benesovsky taking all 4 of their matches.
Mention also of Danny Searle’s efforts in stepping up and
taking 2 frames, and Blair McKerley with a bit of speed pool to take
his last frame. Well done
Fast Break.
4th
Division Report
After the first 2 weeks of pool, we were back at home
against the Stamford Hotel, and we were hungry for our first win of
the year. All we needed
was a more consistent performance from our experienced players, and
for the ‘newbies’ to remember as much of what they had been shown
in practice, and put it to use on game night.
The doubles combinations of Jason Zammit/Greg Hanson, and Kate
Mead/Lauren Black were tied at 3 apiece, a great result for 4 players
making their debuts this year. The
singles started strongly with Brendan Buckley, Mark Fraser and Michael
Hoskins getting 2 frames each, putting us in a good early position.
The Stamford Hotel came back at us, and due to some unfortunate
luck, they started to bridge the gap.
But even with the gallant efforts of our captain Justin
Rosmalen in securing all his 3 frames, we still came up a little
short, going down 20 – 16. We
could walk away with our heads held high though, for even though we
have not gotten our breakthrough win of the year, we managed to push
one of the top teams all the way.
That elusive first win is not that far away, and with the
guidance of the experienced players we haven’t long to wait.
One special mention goes out to Brad Spencer, who managed to
get his first win as a singles player.
Way to go Brad, lets see plenty more of them!
