2nd
Division Report
Initiation by fire.
Tuesday, 1st of March. Started like any other Tuesday
night. Fastbreak players rolled up to The Pool Room between
7:00 & 7:30, Daniel made a quick speech, and we managed to
nail a "GO FASTBREAK!!" on the first week back. It
all got a little fuzzy after that. Having very few players on
the team that have played 2nd Div, the format was very
different to that of 3rd Div, and took some getting used to.
This "unfamiliarity" of format, coupled with 1st
round rust, became apparent by half way through the second
round, with the score on the board showing 16-2 in the Pool
Room's favor. Not a good start.

Even though we were down, we certainly weren't out. Blair McKerley,
Fastbreak's new VC, did an excellent job as a one man pep squad,
constantly cheering and "talking it up" even though things
looked grim. His enthusiasim and "don't say die" attitude
seemed contagious, and soon started to effect the score. After a slow
start, the tables turned, and by the end of the night, Fastbreak had
clawed their way back to 24-23, with the final frame falling squarely
on the shoulders of Mark Benesovski. In an impressive display of cool,
calm, collectiveness, Mark stepped up to the table and played an
excellent game under pressure, winning the frame and clinching a huge
comeback to draw the night. After the match, Mark was heard to remark
"24 all. I couldn't read the board from here. I didn't even know
what the score was!" Grace under pressure indeed.
A huge night and a huge result for Fastbreak's 2nd Div debut.
4th
Division Report
The start of the 2005 Winter Season has seen the birth of a new
Fastbreak Division team and a LOT of new faces! Indeed, there
were only 7 players from the past, and an unprecedented 7 new players
to fill the shoes of those that have ascended. Past
players Tammy, Mel, Carly, Bec & Mark F were usually partnered up
with each other in doubles combinations in years gone by, but with the
new look Fastbreak 4ths they were asked to step up to singles and lead
the way. And what a fantastic job they did! Each
demonstrated the class, coolness and "down-to-business"
attitude that has set the stage for a great year.
Unfortunately with the way things are, our new players sort of got
dropped in the deep end - in a BIG way! 7/7 of these guys have
never played EDPL before, so not only did they have to play pool at a
whole new level, but learn the rules as well! Each should be
very proud of their efforts with a special mention to Sally-Jane for
playing her first game ever - in singles - against the opposition captain!! Other
standout performances were by new comers Chantelle (an old mate to FB)
and Michael (all the way from WA) who took 2 frames each in their
Fastbreak singles debuts. Oh and lets not
forget our prodigal son, and new 4th Division Captain - Justin
Rosmalen. After a year away playing some weird yank game, he has
returned to Fastbreak with a new enthusiasm and a funny hair-do to
boot!
