Who let the DOGS out........... DRUMMOYNE OCEAN GOING SWIMMERS
Following their exploits last year, a group of
club members will be entering some of the increasingly popular ocean
swims around Sydney this summer.
Mark Egan did the 2.5km Coogee Wedding Cake Island swim on the 1st December in 31 minutes and backed up on the 8th for the popular but more difficult 2.6km Bondi to Bronte. He was joined by Allen Browne, Paul Gilmour, Susan Leech, Mike Macaulay, John Towns and Paul Youssef. Sandy Molson and Tracey Ronald came as the support team and have promised to do their first swim this season. About 1200 people took on a good surf at Bondi and battled through a 2m swell down past Tamarana. The run into Bronte was easier this year and Mike managed to keep his swimmers on! Everyone improved on last year's time and Allen swam a good race, coming 4th in his age group. It was Paul Youssef's first swim and he did very well - only 18 seconds behind Allen. Mark Egan was seen muttering "no more tips for him" after the race. John Towns said if he'd swallowed one less mouthful he might have beaten John Konrads who came in just 10 seconds ahead.
