The
Corsair is a 16 foot (4.8 metre)
fibre-glass sailing
dinghy offers excellent racing with a crew of
three and in addition is a comfortable cruising boat.
Designed by Alan Payne to be an all-round performance centreboarder
for Australian conditions. After prototype trials in 1966, the first
one hundred yachts, numbered 101 to 200 identical with those, were widely
distributed in 1967. Today's Corsair is manufactured by
Blue
Water Marine.
August
13th 1968, Corsair Class
owners in NSW formed their State branch of Corsair Class Association.
The first State Championship was held
in Botany Bay.
The boats
have gained a band of devoted followers and have been chosen as the
ideal training dinghy for the Naval Reserve Cadet Units.
Their first State Titles was in 1986
at Budgewoi S.C.
The
Association holds 4 championships every season and application for membership
for boat owners for season 2006/2007 is $15 for
the period of 1 September to 30 August.
The 4 season events are;
central Coast, Northern
Zone, Inland waters, State Championships.
