Moorhens near the Rocky River, 2001 Late winter and spring of 2001 was wetter than usual. Probably the explosion in the numbers of Dusky Moorhens, as evidenced by this photo, was connected with the wet conditions.

This flock (of 500 or so, only a part of which can be seen here) was to be seen close to the Rocky River near Huddleston in October.

This flock, again, at least 500 birds, was photographed on the Hill River, east of Clare, also in October.

A farmer on southern Eyre Peneninsula remarked to me about the numbers that he had seen in his area around the same time.
