COMMON KOEL

Long-tailed cuckoo about 39-46 cm either black (male) or barred brown (female).  Is a summer migrant from September - April when it lays eggs in nests of large honeyeaters such as wattlebirds.  Has loud raucous voice with a mournful 'cooee'.  Feeds on fruit particularly native figs.
