RAINBOW LORIKEET

A large, blue-headed lorikeet with orange or red breast, pointed tail and wings and brush-tipped tongue for gathering nectar from flowers.  Grows to 25-30 cm.  Flies swiftly in flocks, screeching noisily whilst in flight with a more pleasant note when feeding.  Nests in hollow trees.

Common from Broome in north-western Australia, down the east coast to Kangaroo Island in South Australia.
