ROCK SCHOOL

25 November 2007

With generous support from some local and Regional abseil instructors we were able to organise an activity for the Scouts to earn their Abseiling proficiency badge.

The first session involved instruction during one of our regular weekly meetings. This covered safety precautions, communication conventions, correct fitting of harness and clipping onto ropes, protective clothing, care of equipment and a mock abseil on flat ground.

After that preparation we headed to the Rock School site in the Woronora Valley on a mild Sunday morning, charged with excitement.

Some of the abseilers.

When everyone has to do five abseils, there is a lot of waiting around.

The abseiling action was great!

Negotiation an overhang was fun; with feet remaining on the lip of the overhang, you had to lower your head below the overhang before releasing your feet and swinging under.

Our Troop.
