JOTT

   Jamboree On The Trail

   12 May 2007

JOTT is an annual event held on the second Saturday in May and is designed to encourage Scouts of all ages from around the world to get out and enjoy the outdoors. This year on Saturday 12th May the Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, and many families combined for a 10th Anniversary JOTT event. In recent years our JOTT hikes have explored the local area and this year we explored the Still Creek valley to the north of Bangor.

A group of 45 people met at our Scout hall on a glorious mild sunny afternoon and walked down Yalla Rd and took a fire trail with a steep descent into the valley. On the valley floor we followed the creek to near the junction with the Woronora River. The mud flats were an ideal spot to hunt for crabs.

We enjoyed afternoon tea beside the creek, painted faces with mud and charcoal, played cricket, saw giant spiders and caught more crabs. After releasing the crabs back to their homes we headed west up the creek valley to take a less steep exit. Along the way we played camouflage games and the Cubs and Joeys were expert at hiding. A cross-country event was using the same fire trails and several times we stood aside to let runners past.

Thanks to the Joey Mod, Cub Pack, Scout Troop and families for joining in to help make our JOTT hike fun.
