Different Breed is a heavy rock/metal band consisting of four very talented and experienced musicians.
As the name suggests, the members each come from diverse backgrounds all
with the common love of rock and metal, resulting in a very unique and unmistakable
signature sound. Jamo the riffmaster (gtr) is the band's resident riff machine and heavy metal technician/encyclopaedia. Finding a love for heavy metal in his pre-teens, he has been writing and recording his own original material extensively for ten years, making him a rather experienced studio musician and a computer recording whizkid. Able to weld a bunch of iron-bar-across-the-chest riffs together or spill out an emotion soaked ballad and capture it on hard disk in the blink of an eye, Jamie is the driving force, conceiving most of the band's music, constantly churning out chunky, melodic riffs and textural harmonies that are a trademark in all projects that he is involved with. Biff the gob (vox/gtr) started out performing in hip hop and R&B acts. He has been singing professionally for 13 years and has toured nationally with quite a few big acts including Peter Andre, E.Y.C, Jermey Jordan, Girlfriend, Portrait and Rick Price. He has also sang on numerous jingles for TV and radio as well as co-writing and performing on the title track for the Gladiators album with John "Vulcan" Seru . Biff also plays a major part in the songwriting duties, penning most of the lyrics as well as handling arrangements. Ash the beatkeeper (drums/vox) taps rhythms out on everything everywhere he goes. This guy has music forever running through his body 24/7. He is a very experienced performer, having performed with many local bands (including Souljure and his own band Wyomin) on the mid north coast over the last seven years. Ash is the powerhouse behind the bands heavier sounds, pumping out thunderous beats and intricate cross rhythms only to be able to slip so smoothly under a whisper with feel for the bands softer, more sensitive side. The last three years Ash has been sharing his skills, teaching drum students and furthering his own studies into musical theory and composition. Dr Mic, groove M.D. (bass/vox) has been writing and recording in his own home studio for ten years and has been performing with various live bands between Brisbane and Newcastle for 14 years. Whilst having roots in rock and metal, Dr Mic is also heavily into jazz/fusion, funk, soul and electronica which is reflected in DB's music, giving a groovy feel to the solid and sometimes brutal riffage, cheekily popping in a little slap and tickle tom foolery where necessary. What you have here folks, is a recipe for a band that rocks hard!! DB's live shows consist of a highly energetic performance both aurally and visually on stage (and they play as tight as a frogs arse!) and they also can perform an unplugged set featuring altered versions of some of the heavier songs as well as some acoustic ballads, sometimes incorporating guest musicians in both environments. DB is also a very experienced studio band, constantly recording demos and new material as they write. Their brand of soul driven heavy metal and sensitive ballads contain meaningful lyrics encompassing a wide range of topics from social and political issues to imaginative fantasy. DB's songs are thoughtfully crafted with feeling and creativity and professionally performed with raw talent and an undeniably intense |
