DC Flamingos

Coach's Training Summary

19/05/2008

A great attendance with only Maddi L absent.

A quick torture to the court thirds was used as a warm-up on this freezing cold evening.

A new drill that focuses on sprinting to position and using the pivot foot was tried. Players would run between two cones and pivot around each when the pass had been received, then pass back to the queue where the play started. Players were not really pushing hard so a demonstration of sprinting by the coach ended in disaster with a torn calf muscle.

One-on-one shotting practise and defensive play from 3 points in the semi-circle was conducted for 10 minutes.

A 3-on-3 half court game was used to try and mix up the style of play with lob or bounce passing to the shooters, and the defence trying hard to intercept. Defence was asked to either keep between their opponent and the ring watching them in peripheral vision, or turn and face the opponent and play in front watching their eyes to see where the ball is going.

Players then had a practice game against another team for 10 minutes.

A cold night but solid training session. Nicely done.
