A quick lap around the old tarmac surface court was used as a warm-up.
This session's focus is on passing, catching and being mobile.
Long passing and running around the corners of a goal third was used to strengthen passing and keep mobility.
Short passing in single file with players running straight at each other was used to promote catching ability at speed.
Two groups of 3 players in line were made to catch and pass while off the ground in much the same way a volleyball player would try it over an imaginary net. The object is to keep players on the move and enhance timing in receiving the ball. This was run up and down the court several times with players rotating through the queue.
Zigzag short passing game was introduced where a player runs between the court corner and the semi-circle T-intersection passing and receiving to/from another player stationed 5 metres away. This keeps players on the go and makes them catch with hands out in front or to the side. Players in the zigzag have to run hard to make sure that they are not beaten to the next pass receive.
Ebony-Rose P needed to leave early.
In an attempt to add more dimensional thinking to play, practicing tapping the ball back into play from a situation where it was about to go out close to the side line was tried for about 5 minutes. This was then changed to tapping the ball to self-control and then to have a shot at goal.
A quick 10-minute practice game was run with 5 players (against the team that is in the next game by chance!). Because the team was down by 2 players it made everyone run hard to the ball and promoted the concept of continuous motion on the court.
The team is well placed to perform well in the next game. Player ability is improving at every training session.
