A poor attendance with only 3 regulars interested (Emma W, Steph L and Erin K) and a new player trying out for the team (Alexis R). It is a pity really as training is the best way to win in matches. Very disappointing when the coach can be in hospital the day before after being electrocuted and can still make it!
Just a quick run up and down the court was used for a warm up. This was followed by some "quick foot work" exercises designed to stop players from being flatfooted during games.
A two-thirds court passing practice session was run to increase passing strength and distance. Players rotated as a single receiver under the ring to get used to catching hard and difficult passes.
Brief goal shooting practice was conducted with emphasis on shooting style for success over about 3-4 meters.
Pass and run exercise to the corners of the goal third reinforced strong ball handling and body movement. This was reduced to single line pass and run-by drill after.
Another team invited the girls to play in a match where they offered some of their players to make up two competitive sides. The DC Flamingos play was quite good with terrific flow from deep defence to offence.
Alexis R decided to join the team and she will be a great asset.
