DC Flamingos

Coach's Game Summary

Round 2 - U15AR Grading Match
16/02/2008
DC Flamingos 4
LOSS to DC Magpies 29

The team is still down by at least one player and with Caitlin F absent it was a very tough ask on a really warm day to play a game with only 5 players.

Even though this was a grading match, it is still desirable to have a full team to try out players in different positions for the rest of the season. Today there was no WD or WA so there was enormous pressure across the centre of the court.

There isn't much than can be said about a game like this, other than it was a great effort by Maddi L and Ksenya J in defence and Emma W, Erin K and Steph L rotating the forward attack.

There were some fantastic signs for future quality ball movement down the court that tore up a full strength opposition. Defence were told to just camp near the ring instead of running up the court wasting energy. Players were asked to launch some big passes to try and clear the ball out of defence. The second half was much better than the first while the players were just trying to conserve strength to see the game out.

A game blow-out like this doesn't really help anyone, it just makes the teams look artificial better or worse than they really are. A few observations suggest that long passing does need some attention, playing for court area position and shooting in general could all be worked on at training.
